Today╒s young people are given a pat on the back by the Latey committee on the age of majority in its report published today.
As a generation, the report says, ╥they are handicapped in their attempts to make the best use of their lives by the fact that so many of the people around them seem to expect the worst.╙
And, it goes on, ╥it would be truer to say, like Lord Clive, that considering the temptations to which they are subject, they could fairly be astounded at their own moderation.╙ The committee╒s view after a good look at the younger generation is that the age of majority should be reduced to 18.
